A crisp morning swim =)

We debated heading out to Whiteswan hot springs (natural springs with 3 man-formed pools shaped into the rocks just above the river - one of our favourite spots!) with Jeff and his kids today... (Kevin's brother brought Brooke and Tyler to visit for the weekend!!) ...however, we decided that the added luxury of change rooms and concrete might play an important factor on this temporarily snowy morning... we don't want a little one slipping on the sharp rocks of a mountainside while sopping wet and trying to change from a swimsuit to clothing. So, since Fairmont is just as beautiful we took the kids there instead. We basically had the whole pool to ourselves for at least an hour, as the morning is the least popular time to swim - and I'm not sure why, as it's the most refreshing and relaxing time of day to swim outdoors! I'm helping Aiden bob contentedly up and down, with Tyler peering in for the pic;) The cousins had a GREAT time together in the pool. Kevin is attacked by a mob of munchkins! Atalie wanted to wear a life jacket so we encouraged her to try the doggy-paddle while she had on her extra boost of confidence;) She's never wanted to float by herself, never mind swim around by herself (even with a life jacket I think she felt quite tipsie)! She clung to us for quite awhile and immediately freaked out once she saw she was doing it without my help (haha!) but low and behold, she eventually decided she was ready to try on her own! After that we couldn't stop her from paddling around the pool... even in the shallow spots where she could well reach the bottom, she HAD to swim! Funny how these "baby" steps make a parent proud:) The big grin on her face said it all, never mind her yelling "DADDY, LOOK AT ME!! WATCH ME SWIM! I'M SWIMMING!!" Hahaha...

Mattress Jumping

Kevin thought it would be hilarious to sweep the kids' feet out from underneath them as they jump on the bed mattress... the kids laughed so hard the first time that he just kept doing it. When he first told me about this new game I was mortified, thinking back to when I first jumped on the trampoline with him and he tried it to me - I was furious to say the least!! However, now that I've seen it with my own eyes I gotta admit it's pretty hilarious! =)

A day well spent!

We had a beautiful blue sky today, gracing us with more warmth than we've had these past few months, so we decided to take advantage! After a morning of building projects around the house we went to Invermere to do a couple errands and let the kids play at the park... something they've dearly missed doing all winter!! We've let them play in the backyard on the snowy occasion, however it never seemed to last long before fingers and noses would get too cold and the fun would end (much too quickly considering all the bundling we had to do to get them there!). It's so nice to enjoy the seemingly spring-like weather we've been having!

Aiden's bed.

I had a quick trip to Calgary yesterday to get some things for Aiden's bed. I worked out the math ahead of time and figured that we still saved $ by driving all that way to buy what we wanted and needed as opposed to buying it locally(!)... I'm really not surprised however. The city size reflects on the amount of selection as well as price. Too bad b/c I prefer to support locally owned businesses... anyway, here' the finished product (thanks to Ikea, Home Depot and my carpenter husband):

All about blood!

Ok so I totally stole this post idea from a friends post (thanks Andrea!)... guilty! =) I had never heard this theory before so it was very intreging to me and I had to check it out. The site she had linked is called Eat Right For Your Type (Blood Type). Here's an introduction paragraph from the author: "People who are A blood type have a different set of characteristics than people who are Type O - they are susceptible to different diseases, they should eat different foods and exercise in a completely different manner. Some believe that personality is influenced by blood type! Dr. D'Adamo, author of the best selling books Eat Right for Your Type and Live Right for Your Type, among others, gives us a blueprint for living in his books." I found the comparison between Kevin's blood type (an "O") and suseptibility to stomach troubles quite fascinating! He suggests that "O"s stomach problems are due to a higher level of stomach acids and should avoid eating too much wheat and dairy... hmmm, perhaps an overexposure and pre-disposition may contribute to such a things as Celiac??? He also suggests that this blood type responds to stress with a "fight or flight" mentality... that although they can be powerful and productive personalities, when stressed their response can be one of anger, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Quite true. It goes into further explaination as to the DNA makeup of this reasoning but of course half of it doesn't make sense to me, as Biology class was a good 10+ years ago already! For myself? Well, I'm an "A". It's suggested that we are at higher risk for cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease (I know at least 2 of those run in the family). Apparently we "A"s also have a low level of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and high intestinal disaccharide digestive enzyme levels, allowing a more efficient digestion of carbohydrates (how much do I love my breads!??!). According to Dr. D'Adamo, these are also the very factors, along with low levels of intestinal alkaline phosphatase, that make it difficult for Type As to digest and metabolize animal protein and fat. Huh. I hadn't considered that part. Who'da thunk? Also, due to the naturally elevated cortisol in type "A"s, stress often manifests in disrupted sleep patterns, daytime brain fog, increased blood viscosity (thickening), and promotes muscle loss and fat gain. I can relate there! Anyway, that's that. If you head to this site to check out your own blood type "analysis", click on "About The Diets" in the top tabs.

Room swap

The kids finally moved to a bedroom downstairs this weekend! Woohoo=) We feel as though we've gained a little independance back, even though it really just means a further way to go when summoned;) Their previous bedroom, across from ours, has become a nursery for baby #3! Here are some pics: Atalie and Aiden helped put stickers on the wall along their beds to kind of personalize their sleeping spaces... Attie has princess fairies and flowers (of course) and Aiden has fish and submarines. They glow in the dark and are a big hit! The double mattress on the floor is a temporary bed for Aiden until we buy a single and Kevin can then build a lower bunk frame. I considered painting the kids room but it may be more hastle than it's worth considering we're not sure when we'll be selling the house and if we'll be moving Atalie into her own room in a year or two if we are still around. I'd like to re-paint the nursery but I'm not sure if it'll happen... we'll see;) Can hardly wait!!!
